Chimney Cap Installation for Loomis homes

Loomis sits in the lower Placer foothills and has deliberately resisted the subdivision growth that transformed Rocklin and Roseville around it. Large lots, horse property, old orchard land and a genuinely small-town centre mean the housing here is varied and often older, with a strong wood-burning culture supported by abundant local fuel. Loomis sits in old almond and fruit orchard country, and orchard wood is what a lot of people burn — almond in particular is dense, burns hot, and is excellent firewood when properly seasoned. When it is not properly seasoned, which is common with wood cut locally and burned the same year, it deposits creosote quickly. Add the foothill elevation and its occasional freezing nights, plus properties surrounded by oak and pine that overhang roofs, and Loomis chimneys need both a spark arrestor and a genuinely attentive annual service.

Rural foothill parcels with a strong wood-heat culture fed by local orchard wood. Almond and fruit wood burned in the year it was cut is frequently under-seasoned, which deposits creosote fast. Foothill elevation brings occasional freezing and freeze-thaw exposure, and oak and pine overhanging roofs make spark arrestors and flue clearance an ongoing requirement.

Process

How the visit works

Measure the flue properly

Outside dimensions of the tile, the number of flues, and the crown condition. Multi-flue chimneys often need one custom cap rather than several small ones.

Recommend the right style

Single-flue, multi-flue, outside-mount, or a full crown-covering cap depending on your chimney and how much crown protection you need.

Check the crown underneath

There is no point capping a chimney over a cracked crown. If the crown needs sealing we tell you before we fit the cap, not after.

Install and fasten from the roof

Stainless cap seated square and mechanically fastened so it survives Delta breeze gusts, not just set in place.

Photograph the finished install

You get pictures from the roof, because almost nobody goes up to check.

Questions

FAQs

Is almond wood good to burn?

It is excellent firewood — dense, hot and long-burning — but only once it is properly seasoned, which means split and stacked under cover for a full year or more. The problem in Loomis is that orchard wood is so readily available locally that people burn it the same season it was cut. Under-seasoned wood carries water that cools the flue gases and deposits creosote rapidly, so good wood burned too green behaves like bad wood.

Do you come out to Loomis and Penryn?

Yes. Loomis is within our thirty-mile service radius from Carmichael and we are up there regularly. There is no additional travel charge and estimates are free. If you are further out toward Penryn or Newcastle, call and we will tell you honestly whether you are inside our radius rather than making the trip and adding a fee.

How much does a chimney cap cost?

It depends on flue size, how many flues the chimney has, and roof access. A standard single-flue stainless cap is at the affordable end; a custom multi-flue cap covering the whole crown costs more because it is fabricated to your chimney. We give you a firm number before any work begins, and the estimate is free.

Stainless or galvanised — is it worth the difference?

Stainless, every time. Galvanised caps are cheaper up front and typically rust through within a handful of Sacramento winters, then streak rust down your brick. Stainless routinely lasts decades. The price gap is small and the lifespan difference is not.
