Folsom spans a wider historical range than almost any city in our service area. The Sutter Street historic district contains genuine nineteenth-century stone and brick construction, some of it Gold Rush era, and those buildings need conservation-minded work with matched lime mortar rather than anything modern. Move a few miles east and the picture inverts completely: Empire Ranch, Broadstone and the newer Folsom Ranch developments south of Highway 50 are full of homes under twenty-five years old, almost all fitted with direct-vent gas fireplaces.
