Rancho Cordova is really two towns as far as chimneys are concerned. The older core north of Folsom Boulevard was built quickly in the 1950s and early 1960s to house Aerojet and Mather Field workers, and that housing was economical: modest masonry fireplaces, thin crowns, and minimal detailing. Then there is the newer Rancho east of Sunrise — Anatolia, Stone Creek and the surrounding developments — built from the late 1990s onward, where almost everything is a direct-vent gas appliance or a factory-built firebox.
