Chimney Cap Installation for Citrus Heights homes
Citrus Heights grew explosively through the 1970s and 1980s, and that timing shows in almost every chimney we service there. This is prefabricated metal fireplace country. Rather than the site-built masonry of older Sacramento neighbourhoods, the tract builders working around Sunrise Mall and Birdcage installed factory-built zero-clearance fireboxes vented through insulated metal chase pipe, enclosed in a framed and stucco-clad chase. These systems have a finite service life, and a great many of them are now well past it. The chase covers rust through and dump water directly into the framed chase; the firebox refractory panels crack; and the original spark arrestor screens have usually corroded away entirely. Homeowners are often surprised to learn that their chimney is not masonry at all, and that the repair path for a prefab unit is completely different from a brick one.
Predominantly 1970s and 1980s factory-built zero-clearance fireplaces in framed, stucco-clad chases. Rusted-through chase covers are the leading cause of water intrusion here, followed by cracked refractory panels and corroded spark arrestors. Prefab units are replaced as assemblies, not repaired like masonry, and many have reached end of life.

Process
How the visit works
Measure the flue properly
Outside dimensions of the tile, the number of flues, and the crown condition. Multi-flue chimneys often need one custom cap rather than several small ones.
Recommend the right style
Single-flue, multi-flue, outside-mount, or a full crown-covering cap depending on your chimney and how much crown protection you need.
Check the crown underneath
There is no point capping a chimney over a cracked crown. If the crown needs sealing we tell you before we fit the cap, not after.
Install and fasten from the roof
Stainless cap seated square and mechanically fastened so it survives Delta breeze gusts, not just set in place.
Photograph the finished install
You get pictures from the roof, because almost nobody goes up to check.

Questions
FAQs
How do I know if I have a prefab or a masonry fireplace?
Look inside the firebox. A masonry fireplace is built from individual firebricks with visible mortar joints. A factory-built unit has smooth refractory panels, usually with a metal frame around the opening and often a metal label with a model number inside the firebox or under the lower grille. Most Citrus Heights homes built after about 1975 are factory-built.
Can a cracked prefab firebox panel be repaired?
Small hairline cracks in refractory panels can sometimes be filled with a listed refractory patch. Anything wider than a credit card edge, or a panel with a piece missing, needs the panel replaced with the manufacturer's part for that specific model. Using a non-listed part voids the unit's listing and its clearance rating, so it is not something to improvise.
How much does a chimney cap cost?
It depends on flue size, how many flues the chimney has, and roof access. A standard single-flue stainless cap is at the affordable end; a custom multi-flue cap covering the whole crown costs more because it is fabricated to your chimney. We give you a firm number before any work begins, and the estimate is free.
Stainless or galvanised — is it worth the difference?
Stainless, every time. Galvanised caps are cheaper up front and typically rust through within a handful of Sacramento winters, then streak rust down your brick. Stainless routinely lasts decades. The price gap is small and the lifespan difference is not.
